Alden model numbers are a three to seven character code on the inside of the shoes. Alden has produced a large number of Shell Cordovan models. Most of the models were limited runs for various Alden retailers. These runs may only produce 10 to 30 pairs of a single model and only a single pair in a particular size. See Alden Army, Alden of San Diego or the Alden Model Project for photos of many of the models.

Crockett & Jones makes shoes with its own name and private label shoes and boots for a number of high end retailers. The most famous American sellers are Brooks Brothers through its Peal & Co imprint and Ralph Lauren under various labels. While C&J usually stamps the name and a shoe number on the lining, it normally has a hand written number and no name on Brooks Brothers and Ralph Lauren offerings. Crockett & Jones also makes private label shoes with handwritten numbers and names, with the name matching the style, while the number comes nowhere close to the usual C&J style number.
|
